Weekly Update #4 - Various Improvements


Hey all, happy to announce the fourth weekly update to Flower Crown Chaos! Here are the major additions for the week:

  • Enemy Scaling Rework - Enemies were pretty determined to make you lose before the 2-minute mark before this update. I have reworked the scaling of enemy health and speed to be more forgiving and allow for longer runs, especially with some upgrades and research under the player's belt. Additionally, the money acquired for a kill scales alongside the enemy's strength. These changes are subject to further adjustments as new enemies are added to the progression.
  • Hitbox reworks - The player and enemy hitboxes are now circles rather than capsules. This should allow players much more maneuverability in all directions and makes more sense for the sidelong camera perspective. These changes are a work in progress, so please let me know what you think!
  • Research Enhancements - A test-tube visual indicator has been added to give the player a sense of progress between runs as they invest their essence seeds. Additionally, whenever a new item is unlocked, the player will notice a pop-up to indicate what they just earned.
  • New Flower - The Wildflower - This flower will replicate any other flower and can be used to symmetrically complete a crown when you can't find a match! When it isn't filling the role of another flower, it will randomly copy the stats and augments of one of your unlocked flowers.
  • Major Code Overhaul - The majority of my time this week was spent refining systems behind the scenes to allow for a much more streamlined process for adding new content. While these changes can't be seen on the player's end, I assure you they will lead to more content in the long run. It wasn't fun, but it was necessary. Let me know if you discover any new bugs via the form on the end screen.
  • Alternate Single Flower Fire Button - The player can now use Q to fire a single fire rather than just the right mouse button. This one's for all you trackpad players!
  • Credits Page - Please check this out to pay respects to everyone who has helped on this journey so far! Fill out my feedback form to be featured in the playtester section!
  • Various small bug fixes and improvements
    • Added a surprise animation to enemy behavior when they stop moving
    • Added an animation to essence seeds for easier visibility
    • Fixed a bug with dialogue where sentences would get combined sometimes
    • Reworked Payout Section on end screen to make more sense
    • Other small changes
