Weekly Update #6 - Sprinters and Sunflowers


Hey all, the sixth weekly update to Flower Crown Chaos is here! Here are the major additions for the week:

  • (Some) Sound Effects - This week included a lot of learning about the software and practices behind implementing sound into games. I learned how to create new sounds from scratch and implement them in a couple different ways, which was fun but taxing. Unfortunately, I found out about 5 mins ago that the sound engine I used does not support web builds. To play this update, please download the zip file instead. I will work on figuring this out before more sounds are implemented. 
  • New Enemy - The Sprinter - FCC sees its first enemy variation in this update. It's pretty simple, but will make longer runs a little more challenging for those who are skillful and dedicated to their craft (pun intended). I also set up the framework for future enemies, so hopefully that won't be much of a challenge as the game expands.
  • New Flower - The Sunflower - Another uncommon flower has been added with two new mechanics. Firstly, if the player walks over the sunflower without picking it up, it will begin to grow. It has three tiers, including its default state, which are progressively stronger. Secondly, it also has a blinding effect on collision. Enemies who are blinded won't be able to track their target until their vision is clear. The sunflower brings the total flower types in the game to 10 and the total crown permutations to 1210!
  • Flower Growth Animations - Flowers now grow when they spawn in.
  • Completion Tracker Bug Fixes - There were many visual issues with the completion tracker, especially when it came to screens of varying aspect ratios. These issues have hopefully been ironed out. There is still a known issue with the flower tab disappearing, I will attempt to get this ironed out with the next update
  • Various bug fixes and improvements
    • Messing up on the final stage of the tutorial made it unplayable - this has been resolved
    • The green markers in the completion tracker have been darkened for easier visibility
    • Probably some other stuff I'm forgetting
